A variety of fish can be caught here, kind of what I call potluck trips. You never know what your gonna get. Lingcod, black bass, greenlings and assorted rockfish are what we go target. Lingcod are phenomenal eating fish and have been averaging around 10 lbs and up. Limits are 2 lingcod per person, and 7 assorted rockfish, mostly black bass and some blues mixed in. Occasionally a halibut is hooked on these trips on the outside of the reefs. You can only keep halibut if the season is open. If you want crab, we can drop crab pots on our way out to the fishing grounds, as well.

Fall Chinook/ Coho @ Bouy 10 Rates

I usually start the season off by running to the ocean, seas permitting, where both Chinooks (kings) and silvers (coho) are staging and feeding heavily on the large amounts of bait. Limits are very common and the usual 2 salmon per person limit is in effect here. Mid month I move to inside the river and target the kings (called “upriver brights”) until the end of month or closer. Silvers are mixed in and often allow for full limits for everyone. The kings run from 12-15 lbs all the way up to 40+ lbs. Silvers are about a 10 lbs average, some larger, depending on the year. The season goes from Aug 1 through usually around Labor Day for the Chinook kings, and silvers/coho usually stays open thru Oct.

Fall Chinook Season and Rates

Columbia River/Tillamook Bay/Nehalem Bay guided trips

Depending on the year and size and timing of the run, I typically move up river and anchor fish with wobblers for Chinook salmon. The limit varies year to year. Average size 15-30 lbs. In late September or early October, I move back to the coast to either Tillamook Bay or Nehalem depending on where the best bite has been. Here on the coast we troll herring and bounce around the bay with the tide.

Sturgeon Rates

$160 per person (All Year)

Willamette River

This is an all-year fishery with lots of action. I usually start after these around the first week of December after fall chinook and go thru March. I mostly fish in various places close to Portland, anchoring in the river and fishing for these prehistoric giants. I put out different baits and then let the fun begin. On an average day the boat will get 15-30 fish with many in the keeper size range, and one here and there that goes oversize.

In June and July I am up in Alaska guiding, but do work with several other guides, so if your wanting to get out I do have a way to accomodate those. If your interested about going to Alaska please contact me 503 720-2772 and I will be sure to get you up.
